Reflection on Today's Gospel
Does the Way I Live Help Others to See the Goodness of God?
In today's Gospel (Matthew 21:28–32), Jesus tells the story of two sons. One promises to do what his father asks but does nothing; the other initially refuses yet later changes his mind and obeys. Jesus reminds us that faith is more than saying the right words.
People are most likely to encounter Christ when they see his love reflected in the way we live. We share our faith whenever we show kindness, forgive someone, care for a neighbour, defend the vulnerable or quietly help a person in need.
This does not mean that we should never speak about our faith. We should be ready to explain why prayer, Mass and our relationship with Christ matter to us. But our words will be convincing only when they are supported by our actions.
Perhaps this week we might ask ourselves: Does the way I live help others to see the goodness of God? We do not need to be perfect. Like the first son, we can change our minds, begin again and allow our "yes" to God to become visible in what we do.
